Why A Crestliner Boats

1946
Aluminum Boat Company

Working inside an airplane hangar on the banks of the Mississippi River in Little Falls Minnesota, William Morse, Sr., created the first aluminum fishing boat for the Aluminum Boat Company.


1948
Larson Watercraft

Loiel S. Ryan Sr. and his son Loiel, Jr., gain management of the company and rename it Larson Watercraft.


1955 - 1957
Crestliner, Inc.

In 1955, Crestliner becomes the trade name for all boats produced by Larson, and in 1957 the company officially changes its name to Crestliner, Inc.


1958

Crestliner introduces their first fiberglass boat, the Comanche 17.


1964

Crestliner is sold to Molded Fiber Glass Body Company of Ashtabula, Ohio. By the late 60s, Crestliner is producing both aluminum and fiberglass boats in a variety of models. The very first all-welded Crestliner boat also makes an appearance this year.


1970

Crestliner ownership passes to the Industrial and Marine Division of North America Rockwell Corporation.


1972

AMF Incorporated purchases Crestliner Boats and Hatteras Yachts.


1981
Nordic Boat Company

Economic conditions combined with a fuel crisis lead AMF to reduce their marine operations. When the Crestliner Aluminum Division is offered for sale, former employees come together to purchase it, forming the Nordic Boat Company.


1985

The Crestliner conversion bow is patented.


1981 - 1988
Crestliner, Inc.

Business grows as the company expands on the aluminum boat line and simultaneously reintroduces a full line of fiberglass models. In 1988 Genmar Industries buys the company and re-instates the Crestliner name.


1989

Fiberglass models are discontinued and production focuses on aluminum product lines. In this same year, Crestliner patents the Space Saver Transom, SST.


1992

Crestliner launches a new era of boating and fishing entertainment by introducing their pontoons.


2004

Crestliner, Inc. is sold to Brunswick Corporation and operates as a division of the Brunswick Boat Group.


2010

Crestliner celebrates 65 years as an innovator in the aluminum market; delivering a complete line of fishing, fish and ski, pontoon and jon boats to enthusiastic consumers across the United States and Canada.
